The Assessment Process

How the Assessment Works

A structured, transparent process from first contact to written report. Here is exactly what happens at each stage.

The assessment process is designed to be straightforward for you. Most of the analytical work happens on our side, using data you provide and information we gather about your location. You do not need any technical knowledge — that is what the assessment is for.

01

Initial Contact & Scoping

You contact us by phone or email. We ask a few preliminary questions about your property — location, approximate roof type, whether you own or rent — to confirm that a full assessment is appropriate. There is no charge for this conversation.

What you need: Basic information about your property and a sense of what questions you want answered.
02

Document Collection

You provide your last 12 months of EDP electricity bills. These can be sent digitally. If you have received any installer quotations, sharing these is helpful — not because we will comment on specific products, but because they reveal the assumptions you have already been presented with.

What you need: 12 months of EDP bills (digital copies accepted). Installer quotes are optional but useful.
03

Site Visit or Remote Survey

For properties in the greater Porto and northern Portugal region, we conduct a site visit to assess roof orientation, pitch, shading obstructions and available area directly. For properties elsewhere, we conduct a detailed remote survey using satellite imagery, topographic data and a structured questionnaire with photographs you provide.

What you need: Availability for a site visit (northern Portugal) or photographs of your roof and surroundings.
04

Analysis & Modelling

We apply your consumption data, roof parameters and location irradiation data to produce production estimates and financial models. We run multiple scenarios with different assumptions about electricity price trends, self-consumption ratios and system costs. This stage takes the most time — typically one to two weeks depending on complexity.

What you need: Nothing at this stage — we work with the data already collected.
05

Written Report & Discussion

You receive a written assessment report covering all five components: roof and site findings, consumption analysis, production modelling, tariff framework context and payback projections. We then schedule a call or meeting to walk through the findings and answer questions. The report is yours permanently.

What you receive: A complete written report and a follow-up discussion session to address any questions.

What the Written Report Contains

Roof & Site Findings

Documented orientation, pitch and shading analysis with clear explanation of how these factors affect your production potential compared to an idealised installation.

Consumption Analysis

Monthly breakdown of your actual consumption, estimated self-consumption ratio for a system sized to your situation, and explanation of what drives that ratio.

Production Estimates

Annual and monthly production projections based on your specific location and roof parameters, with the data sources and methodology stated explicitly.

Regulatory Context

Plain-language explanation of current UPAC self-consumption rules, RESP injection tariffs and what the regulatory framework means for your financial case.

Payback Projections

Scenario-based payback modelling with conservative, moderate and favourable assumptions — all stated clearly so you can evaluate them independently.

Conclusions & Context

A clear summary of findings and, where the data supports it, a plain-language conclusion about whether solar appears financially sound for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have received installer quotes first?

No. Many clients come to us before approaching any installer, which is often the most useful sequence. If you have already received quotes, sharing them helps us contextualise the assumptions you have been given.

What if my roof is partially shaded or unusual?

Complex roof situations are exactly where independent assessment adds the most value. Shading, orientation variations and irregular roof shapes all affect production in ways that simple calculators do not capture accurately.

Do you cover all of Portugal?

We conduct site visits for properties in the greater Porto and northern Portugal region. For properties elsewhere in Portugal, we offer a comprehensive remote assessment using satellite data, local irradiation databases and a structured photograph survey.

Can I use the report when negotiating with installers?

Yes. The report is structured so that you can compare the assumptions in an installer's projection against ours. Understanding where assumptions differ — and why — gives you a much stronger position in any negotiation.

What if the assessment concludes solar is not worthwhile?

Then we tell you clearly. A negative conclusion is not a failure — it is the purpose of the service. Knowing that solar does not make financial sense for your property right now saves you from a significant investment that would not meet your expectations.

How long does the full process take?

From initial contact to delivery of the written report, the process typically takes two to four weeks depending on the complexity of your situation and how quickly documents can be gathered. We communicate progress throughout.
